Well I just started my bookish year off with a bang. The first read of the year and I already have my first Five-Star book. This was an eaaaasy Five-Stars for me. Didn’t even have to pause and think about it. I haven’t been this gripped with a story in so long. If you are a lover of fast-paced and twisty thrillers that will keep you guessing until the very end then definitely add Listen for the Lie to your March 2024 TBR! Sending an enormous thank you to Celadon Books for sending me an ARC of this amazing book. I can’t wait to tell you all about it. Let’s chat!

Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera

I love thrillers. Give me a twisty whodunit and don’t talk to me for the next 1-2 business days. I love spending 300 pages of a book trying to figure everything out. Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera was perfection. Not only was it dark, thrilling, and exciting…but it was a riot. It isn’t often that I get to say that about a thriller. Author Amy Tintera’s writing is quick witted and hysterical. The storyline is so creative, the characters are so well written…I just adored the no-nonsense, snarky, and witty main character of Lucy, and the twists and turns were just enough to keep my mind going in a million different directions!

Listen for the Lie is the story of Lucy. 5 years ago Lucy was found wandering the streets alone covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood. Everyone in the town thinks that she murdered her best friend. Lucy has absolutely no memory of that night. She isn’t even sure herself if she killed her friend. She adored her friend and had absolutely no reason to kill her…but she can’t remember anything…and let’s be honest…being covered in your friends blood can never really be a good thing, right? After the terrible incident she leaves her hometown, her family, and her husband and begins a new life in Los Angeles.

Fast-forward to the present and Lucy finds herself having to return home, to the place she hoped she would never have to set foot. A popular True-Crime Podcast “Listen for the Lie” is investigating Savvy’s murder and it’s handsome host Ben is determined to interview Lucy. In an effort to help find Savvy’s killer (even if it IS Lucy herself) Lucy returns home. Will she be able to recover her memories? Will people still look at her and see a killer?

A Must Read

If you are a fan of true-crime podcasts, thrillers, whodunits, and love a little humor woven into your stories…then please check out Listen for the Lie. My mind was racing with so many theories about “whodunit”…each twist and turn of the book had me convinced it was someone else. I read this book in two days and the only reason it took me that long was because the people I live with demanded lunch and dinner…ridiculous.

I adored the well developed characters in this story. Lucy was such a fantastic main character and I loved her edgy and sarcastic style. The stand-out character for me in the book was Lucy’s Grandma. What a spitfire of a gal. She is what my Mom would call a “hot-ticket” and I adored her. I love the relationship that she and Lucy shared, loved her no-nonsense attitude, and loved that she orchestrated getting Lucy back home.

Like I mentioned above, this was an Advance Readers Copy…so you have a little while to wait to get your hands on this book…but trust me…it will be worth it. It has received RAVE reviews and when I tell you that some of the author’s who are raving are KINDA a big deal in the thriller world. Stephen King, Alex Michaelides, Liane Moriarty, and Alice Feeney to name a few. They all have wonderful things to say about this book and each bit of praise is absolutely so well deserved!

Listen for the Lie is expected to publish March 5th, 2024 so grab a library hold, add it to your Goodreads TBR, pre-order on your favorite book site…however you wanna do it…but definitely don’t miss this one!

Happy Reading!
