There is something so magical about a wordless picture book. Being able to pore over the pages of the book with my kiddos and each share what is happening is just awesome. I was recently sent a copy of a beautiful new wordless book called Penguin Sets Sail by Jessica Linn Evans… and it is so charming! I can’t wait to share it with you!
Penguin Sets Sail
Penguin Sets Sail is the story of a little penguin who dreams of a life as a sea captain. He wears the sweetest little paper sailors hat and desperately wants to experience life on the sea. All of the other penguins are so wrapped up with thinking about fish that they don’t pay any attention to him! So, penguin decides he will fix up a little boat and he will set sail on the open ocean in search of friends and treasures!
On his journey he meets some new friends and has some adventures…but he realizes that the ocean can be a big and scary place! It makes him realize that he misses home and really wants to go back!
Oh my goodness…we just loved this book. We are a family of penguin lovers so he won our hearts over from the very beginning. We absolutely adored the gorgeous illustrations. They are so bright and vivid. As a family of ocean lovers, we adored all of the gorgeous blues and aquas used throughout the pages.
We loved the themes of friendship, adventure, and home. Author/Illustrator Jessica Linn Evans creates a beautiful story through her gorgeous illustrations and use of thought bubbles throughout the pages. We absolutely fell in love with little penguin and loved following his journey!
The kids and I loved chatting about the story as we explored the pages. Wordless books are great for conversation starters and sharing ideas, aren’t they?
